Sophie Turner is set to star in Amazon’s upcoming TV series “Tomb Raider,” sources have confirmed to Variety. Sources say the deal is not yet fully closed, but is expected to close soon.
Turner will star as Lara Croft, the titular tomb raider. The series was greenlit by Amazon earlier this year, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge set to write and executive produce under her overall deal with Amazon. It was first announced to be in development at the streamer in January 2023.
Turner is the latest high-profile actress to take on the role of Croft, who hails from the popular video game series “Tomb Raider.” The globe-trotting adventurer has previously appeared on screen in two Angelina Jolie films and another with Alicia Vikander.
Turner is best known for playing Sansa Stark on the HBO series “Game of Thrones” throughout the show’s eight seasons. She received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama for the series in 2019.
