Avengers: Doomsday is the fifth installment in the Avengers franchise. This movie is scheduled for release in Marvel’s Phase 6.

The official release date for Avengers: Doomsday is May 1, 2026. Initially planned for May 2, 2025, the date was postponed due to Disney”s reshuffle of its Marvel schedule in June 2023. This movie will follow Deadpool 3 and Fantastic Four and will precede Avengers: Secret Wars, slated for May 7, 2027.

The film was set to be directed by Daniel Destin Cretton. However, in November 2023, he stepped down to focus on other Marvel projects like Shang-Chi 2 and Wonder Man.

Cast

The cast of Avengers: Doomsday includes familiar faces and new additions. Robert Downey Jr. will return as Doctor Doom. Tom Holland reprises his role as Spider-Man. Chris Evans joins but may not play Steve Rogers. The Fantastic Four (Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach) are confirmed.

Thunderbolts members include Anthony Mackie (Captain America), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova) and more. Jonathan Majors, initially set to play Kang, was dropped after his conviction in December 2023. Reports suggest that the movie will feature up to 60 superheroes.

Marvel has not revealed the full plot for Avengers: Doomsday. Doctor Doom will serve as the main antagonist. The movie will involve the Fantastic Four and set up events leading to Secret Wars. Stephen McFeely, writer of Winter Soldier and Civil War, is penning the script.
